Most court proceedings are open to
the public including representatives of the public information media.
However, in order to preserve courtroom decorum and protect the rights
of the litigants, rules require prior court approval of cameras and
other electronic equipment in the courtroom.
Supreme Court Administrative Order
1989-1 sets forth the rules and guidelines for film or electronic media
coverage of court proceedings. The request for such access must
be made at least three days before the proceeding on court form MC 27.
Copies of the rules and forms can be accessed on the
Michigan Courts'
website.
