Pre-Sentence Investigation

At the time of your plea before you are sentenced by the Judge for the charges found against you, the Judge may require that a pre-sentence investigation be conducted.

You will be directed to the Probation Department where you will begin the pre-sentence investigation process by filling out an information packet, an appointment to return for the pre-sentence interview will be scheduled at that time as well.  You will be instructed to bring certain documentation such as: Driver's License or Michigan ID, Social Security Card, Diploma(s), Military discharge papers, to name a few.

The purpose of a pre-sentence report is to provide the Judge with additional information about you and your crime and make recommendations so that the Judge may be more informed at sentencing.  Your co-operation during this process will be reflected in the pre-screening report.
