If you feel bored and want something fun to do in Lapeer, you need to head to the Center for the Arts downtown. You might walk past it at first. But it is sitting right in the middle of town. This place has two parts. Gallery 194 is where artists show their work. And the old-school PIX Theatre is where you can catch great shows. The whole place feels alive with art and ideas.
The Center is not just a quiet building with frames on the walls. It is also a spot where local artists get attention and where you can find something new you didn’t expect to like.
The Heart of Lapeer’s Creative Scene
The Center stands diagonally across from the stunning Lapeer County Historic Courthouse. It is an easy spot to find for first-time visitors. It is a place where local talent shines, and the community gathers. If you really want to taste the culture in this area, you need to visit this place.
Gallery 194: Where Art Comes Alive

If you push open the doors of Gallery 194, you will notice that you are surrounded by color, texture, and imagination! The gallery walls showcase original art from local hands and minds. The Lapeer Art Association keeps the space fresh with rotating exhibits that’ll have you coming back month after month.
Here you will find glass sculptures that say more than you expect. And if you have kids, the gallery hosts art classes for all ages. So you can bring your child and let them try something hands-on. And if a birthday is near, head into the Gallery Gift Shop. You’ll spot handmade jewelry, cards, and one-of-a-kind gifts. Much better than grabbing the same box from the mall again.
The PIX: From Silver Screen to Live Shows

Right next door, the PIX Theatre lights up Nepessing Street with its classic marquee. It first opened in 1941 as a movie house. Today, this 294-seat theater puts on live shows. They might put on shows for toe-tapping concerts, whereas on other nights there will be comedy shows.
You will get everything from blues bands to short drama nights. Here you will find magicians pulling rabbits from hats one week, and the next might bring community theater. And sometimes there will be family Nerf Wars!
But you need to grab tickets ahead of time, though, because some shows often sell out fast in this cozy venue.
Art Under the Sky

If you need some fresh air after soaking up all that culture, step outside to Ed LaClair Lapeer Rotary Park. It is easy to find, as it is snuggled right next to the PIX. Metal flowers bloom year-round here. These amazing sculptures were created by local artists Bill Palmer and Jennifer Horn.
You can also take a seat at one of the stone tables and look up at the huge mural. This little pocket park packs a lot of beauty into every square foot!
Make a Day of It
You can also start your artsy adventure with breakfast at CREAM. Those homemade Pop-Tarts are worth the drive on their own. And then head over to the Center for the Arts and take your time. Later, you can grab dinner at Woodchips BBQ right down the street.
The best part about Lapeer’s art scene is how easy it feels. You don’t need to wear your best clothes. You also don’t need to know big art words. You just show up and enjoy it.
